Housing is an important milestone in any person’s life. However, with the increasing population in India, and the dramatic overpopulation of certain key areas in the nation, owning a house in a metro city is nearly impossible, to begin with, especially for those who cannot even afford to make ends meet month to month.
Bearing in mind the issues faced by the poor, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) approved affordable housing options in CSMC Meeting under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban.
About the CSMC Meeting PMAY Urban
In the CSMC meeting under the PMAY-U, the total central assistance towards housing sanctions now stands at ₹1.76 lakh crore, while the total investment approved towards the scheme so far is ₹6.8 lakh crore. The total number of pucca houses sanctioned by the central government now reaches over 1.10 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban housing scheme.
The implementation of the scheme has been steady over the years as the Central government moves towards the completion of houses with basic physical and social amenities and infrastructure offered to the residents. The states and Union territories implementing the Awas yojana will aim to focus on the completion and delivery of houses to the beneficiaries.

These houses set for the underprivileged masses of the country are proposed to be constructed across the verticals of Beneficiary led construction, affordable housing in a partnership with in-situ slum redevelopment.
During the meeting, the states also put in several proposals for revision of projects due to issues like land, topographical hazards, inter-city migration, change of preferences, etc.
Construction is now being carried out in several phases and stages in more than 73 lakh houses and more than 43 lakh houses have already been completed.
With this scheme in effect, more and more houses are added to the list of houses already offered under the Awas yojana, thereby offering affordable housing solutions to people. Workforce and labourers often find it difficult to make it to work in the absence of adequate housing solutions. In worst cases, people are left with no choice but to live on the streets, which has, over the years, grown to be a real problem.
The central government has pinpointed several key locations across the country where the issue of housing is prevalent. Therefore, new houses are being built in these 10 states:
Summing it up
Housing is a major problem across several cities in India. And while cities offer better job opportunities to people, affording a house in such overcrowded places becomes difficult. With the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in the urban areas, housing, as a problem, can be sorted out through meticulous planning and resource allocations in a stipulated manner. Once housing is taken care of, people will then be able to focus on other areas in life, thereby enhancing their standard of living overall.
