Lately, healthcare has grown to be an industry of utmost importance. And when healthcare schemes are being discussed, the health of one of the most vulnerable groups – that of children – cannot be ruled out. Children are most susceptible to healthcare concerns, and if timely intervention is not offered, the child could have to bear the consequences for life.
To envelop children under the benefits of a scheme, the Government of Assam launched the Sneha Sparsha healthcare scheme for children. This scheme will be carried out by the Assam government’s aegis – the Department of Health and Family welfare.
Objectives of the scheme
The primary objective of the scheme, which is why the scheme has seen the light of the day, is to bear the expenditure of treatments like cochlear implants, liver transplants, kidney transplant and even thalassemia which requires bone marrow transplant.
What are the eligibility criteria to avail the benefits of the Sneha Sparsha Healthcare scheme?
The eligibility criteria of the scheme are as follows:
- Priority would be given to families which are Below the Poverty Line (BPL)
- The annual income of the family should be below ₹2.5 lakh
What documents would be needed to prove income?
In order to prove the income category of the applicant, an income certificate provided by an authority notified by the government like:
- Circle officer
- Sub-divisional circle officer
- Block Development officer
- Deputy Commissioner
List of permitted procedures and the eligible amount for it

|Liver transplant||For those belonging to BPL: up to ₹16 lakh. For those belonging to APL: up to ₹10 lakh|
|Kidney Transplant||BPL beneficiaries: up to ₹3 lakh APL beneficiaries: up to ₹10 lakh|
|Cochlear implant||BPL beneficiaries: up to ₹5.35 lakh APL beneficiaries: up to ₹3 lakh|
|Specialised Eye surgery||Up to ₹15,000|
|Blood cancer||Up to ₹1 lakh|
|Tumours||For chemotherapy and radiation: up to ₹25,000 For surgical treatments: up to ₹50,000|
|Thalassemia – blood transfusions, splenectomy and medicines||Up to ₹1 lakh|
|Neurological anomalies (spina bifida, hydrocephalus, etc.)||Up to ₹50,000|
|Artificial limb||For cosmetic limb: up to ₹1 lakh For motorised artificial limb: up to ₹2.50 lakh|
The Assam government will offer financial assistance or the reimbursement of expenses for the beneficiaries of the Sneha Sparsha scheme. This financial assistance will be provided to the beneficiary on the basis of whether they are treated in medical colleges or other hospitals in the State of Assam or are referred to the designated hospitals for super-speciality treatments outside the state of Assam.
